Denver Dress Up Takes On Oakland

After a long couple of months helping with Colorado Fashion Week, I desperately needed some time to relax and not focus on anything blog related, so I took a trip out to Oakland to stay with my sister for a few days. Gabrielle took me around her Temescal neighborhood where we shopped in The Alley and I discovered to amazing Esqeleto boutique. It carries jewelry by local designers that remind me of the works of Pamela Love. If I were made of money, I would buy everything—like this barnacle ring. While my pockets weren’t deep enough to afford Esqeleto, I was able to buy some spiked earrings at Owl N Wood. They’re perfect for adding an edgy touch to a chic outfit or to simply wear casual.
After some shopping we dropped into Doughnut Dolly for freshly made doughnuts. Naughty Cream is to die for! I am a doughnut fanatic and I really don’t think I can cheat on DD now that I have tasted the good life. Following a long day we treated ourselves to a night out at Era where we listened to an eclectic classical meets hip hop group. In the morning we cured our hangovers with a little chicken and waffles from Brown Sugar Kitchen. This was my first experience with chicken and waffles and I must say hour hour long wait was well worth it! Denver, you better have something to offer!
For my last night, Gabrielle and I made a roasted veggie medley for dinner and I baked a chocolate fudge pie to add to the boxy of chocolate covered cherries and numerous doughnuts we sucked down throughout my visit. Then I was off to the airport at 4am to catch a flight and get to another event back here in Denver!
I can’t wait to go back to Oakland and eat more doughnuts and buy more clothes and jewelry from local vendors. If you ever get out there, give these places a try!
