Wine, Women and Shoes Event to Benefit Denver Charity

“Last year, over 1,000 Denver County abused or neglected children entered foster care. Many become trapped in the court and child welfare maze, because, as children, they couldn’t advocate for themselves.” -Denver CASA
On June 23rd, local and international designers are joining forces in support of local non-profit, Denver CASA. A night of glamorous fashion, fine wine and runway shows is only secondary to the mission of the Denver CASA organization. These Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are matched with a child who has recently entered the foster care system to help support and guide them through the social and legal webs with the ultimate goal of finding each child a permanent, loving home.
CASA was initiated by a Seattle Juvenile Court Judge in 1977, after noticing a trend in the inconsistencies in reliable information regarding children’s safety and having to make a judgement pulling from that information. By 1982, the pilot program quickly gained national attention. This was soon followed by financial sponsors to expand the program and in 1985, was subsequently presented with the President’s Volunteer Action Award by President Ronald Reagan.
“In August of 1989, the American Bar Association, the country’s largest professional organization of attorneys, officially endorsed the use of CASA volunteers to work with attorneys to speak up for abused and neglected children.” And in 1996, the state of Colorado adopted into law the CASA initiatives.
It has been said that the present generation’s children will shape the future. But if we do now counsel for those who cannot do so for themselves, then how can we expect them to make the best future not only themselves, but for the children who will proceed them? CASA volunteers are an integral part of making this vision a reality.
